For Everything There Is A Season

We have nearly made it to Summer Solstice (June 20) and can celebrate the beginning of a new season!

Much of what I've learned on the yoga mat can be equated to seasons. Our abilities and limitations vary based on so much...

time of day

what we ate

how we slept

weather

mood

stress

on and on...

Today's season on your mat may be one of restoration and healing, while tomorrow it may be one of building strength and confidence.

We have to learn to listen to our body, understanding the clues it gives us, and respect the season we are in. I wonder though, how do we practice this off the mat?

One way I've found it very natural to apply yoga off of the mat is with what I eat. I need to apply mindfulness here too, listening to my body's needs.

In an effort to make this fun I've begun to learn more about eating seasonally!

There are many benefits to eating seasonal produce...

better taste

higher nutritional content

it's cheaper

it's better for the environment

A peek at seasonal produce I grabbed from the Chesterfield County Farmer's Market

What creative ways do you take yoga off your mat and into the world?

If you're stumped thinking, isn't yoga the shapes and poses we do during a class? Stay tuned for more...
