Yoga Teacher in Training
I was first introduced to yoga at a local gym in 2007. My practice was initially limited to the physical poses, but I noticed improvements in strength and flexibility. These were the only benefits I was seeking, but I found myself intrigued, wanting more.
As my practice grew, I began exploring at-home practice, and learned more about the mindfulness aspects of yoga. This seemed a natural fit for me, working in the mental health field for over 12 years. I understood the benefits of mindfulness, but still there was more, I felt called to challenge myself more.
When I transitioned my practice to a local studio in 2019, the spiritual aspects of yoga began to emerge in my practice. I found a community that supported me, regardless of appearance and ability, I felt at home, and I kept coming back. I began to realize that yoga teaches me everyday to go within, and to love and embrace myself. It was then that yoga transformed from an on-the-mat activity, to an off-the-mat journey. I was truly challenged to value my self and my journey.
This led me to start learning to share yoga with others. In 2020 I successfully completed a 200 hour Hatha yoga Teacher Training Program, specializing in mental health care, with Ruth Ann Dunkerly, C-IAYT, NACYT of Inhale Yoga, LLC in Chesterfield, Virginia.
I have experience teaching both in person and virtual classes. I enjoy sharing my excitement about yoga with others, providing a welcoming environment, and supporting all students in achieving balance, both on and off the mat.
I am often described as intuitive, energetic, approachable, and empathetic. In my free time, I enjoy watching VCU basketball games, walking my dogs, Simba and Nala, and spending time with my family.
